Northern Rodeo Association Finals 2013

Posted on: Mar 02, 2014 by Kevin

The Northern Rodeo Assocation Finals held in Butte, MT is one of the best amature finals in the nation. The production put on by the Northern Rodeo Finals Committee, as well as the Butte Civic Center, and the town of Butte is top notch. It is exciting for both the contestants and the fans, and the stock has been outstanding.

I was fortunate to make it into the finals last October in the 9th position in the tie-down roping and 4th in the team roping. I was pretty disappointed in my performance throughout the season last year but was fortunate to pull it together at the end of the NRA season and place at 4 of the last 5 rodeos I entered to make it into the finals. My team roping parter, Orry Fruit, and I were hot at the beginning of the season and punched our ticket fairly early to the finals but needed to have a good finals to move back into the top 3.

The NRA finals treated me well in the tie-down roping, as I was fortunate to place in the rounds and win the average. I finally was experienced enough to understand to go out and make three solid runs and take the money home. I had always been snake bit by a no time at the finals, but was able to put together 3 sollid runs last year.

Having some success makes me want to come back hungrier next year, and put the time in to win the year end title in the tie-down roping. I have won reserve champion the last two years and I need to break through and work harder to win the year end. I have been fortunate to have good traveling partners and want to thank Orry, Kody, and Trevor for making it fun to go down the road the last couple of years.

Thank you to my 2013 sponsors: Rockin R Bar, Mixers, Fastback, Montucky, and Flair Strips. It is the support of sponsors in the rodeo world that make it possible for us to get down the road.
